Booking
The full cost of the event is £55, rising to £65 after June 1st 2012
(dated from payment of deposit or start of subscription)
Payment can be made by cheque/PO/cash sent with your booking form or you can pay by credit card via Paypal.
To make payment easier, Paypal subscription plans have been set up to spread the cost over the time between booking and the event. Your booking will be dated from the start of payments so you will be charged the fee in force at the time you take out the plan. If you chose this option you will not be asked for a separate deposit as your booking is secure. In spite of the fees Paypal charge I would like to encourage use of this option as it gives us security over your payments and when they’ll be coming in, making it easier to plan the event.
If you choose Paypal there is no need to send a booking form but make sure your contact details are up to date and you include the relevant emergency information.

Catering
The weekend is accommodation-only this year. You will need to provide food for all your own meals but there's a well equipped self-catering kitchen where you're welcome to prepare your own food. There are Tesco and Sainsbury's supermarkets a short drive away in Lydney and Chepstow and a pub that does excellent (if rather pricey) food.
The hostel now has a drinks license so you may not bring your own alcohol. Instead, the castle has a small bar and will be able lay on wine, local beer and cider at reasonable cost.
Event Schedule (provisional)
| Friday | from 5pm | castle open for checking in |
| 9pm - 2am | evening game | |
| Saturday | 10am - 5pm | clan/coterie meetings |
| 8pm - 2am | evening game | |
| Sunday | 12 noon | go home! |
During the day on Saturday and on Sunday morning it is usual for clans and coteries to meet up for plotting, scheming and other nefarious purposes. Rooms will be set aside for these meetings but those not involved at any particular time are welcome to bring and run their own tabletop games. Alternatively you may leave the castle to explore the local area or nearby towns of Chepstow and Monmouth.
Venue
Though it poses as a Youth Hostel these days, the castle was built in 1206 and at various times has been an armory, a royal hunting lodge and a prison. Accomodation is in bunk rooms (bedding provided) and we will be largely self-catering. The bad news is that the castle can only hold 70 people so you will need to book early to ensure a place.
Here's a link to a page of pics taken on a visit in August 2004.
Getting There
St Briavels is a small village on the Gloucester side of the Welsh border.
From the south, head for the older of the two Severn Bridges (M48) and at the first junction over the bridge, turn north onto the A466, then at the next roundabout take the third exit onto the A48 for Chepstow. Follow the A48 till about half a mile after it crosses the river Wye then take the first left (B4228).You will follow this road as it winds along the Wye valley for about 8 miles. Take care at Tutshill where the B4228 makes a sharp right at the first of a double roundabout (signposted to St Briavel's before the turn). About 7 miles after Tutshill, turn off to the left at the junction signed for St Briavels (High St), ignoring earlier signs for St Briavel's Common (you need to watch out - the turn off is poorly signposted and quite tight). Follow the High Street till it starts to bend round to the right and take the next left (Church St). The Castle is on the left.
From the
Midlands and north, head for Gloucester and take the A48 round to the north
of the city. Follow the A48 south-west along the Severn valley as far as Lydney
then turn right onto the B4231. Follow this till it meets the B4228 (turn
left), follow this road south for about 2 miles then turn off to the right
signed for St Briavels (East St). Follow East St till it branches right into
Church St. The Castle is on the left.
For those who insist on relying on these newfangled SatNav thingies,
the postcode is GL15 6RG but be sure to add a ‘via’ through Tutshill
or you may end up taking a very tortuous route through the small roads of
the Welsh marches!
TERMS OF BOOKING
Payment
PLEASE READ THIS : Due to the limited number of spaces and the fact we have to pay for the venue two months in advance of the event I am changing the way bookings and payments are handled this year.
1. Block bookings on behalf of clubs will not be accepted.
2. In the event of more people wanting to book than there are places available, names will be put on a standby list in the order in which they're received.
3. Unless you are paying by Paypal installments you MUST pay for your ticket IN FULL before the final payment deadline (1st October 2012) or your booking may be cancelled and offered to the next person on the standby list. Any money you've paid will be refunded minus the £10 deposit. If before the date of the event you decide you no longer wish to attend for whatever reason, all fees paid will be returned less a reasonable amount to cover obligations incurred on your behalf.
4. Attendees must be 18 years of age or over on or before 9th November 2012
5. Each booking must be accompanied by a copy of the booking form completed for a named individual or family group.
Conduct
1. You may only bring into play a character drawn up in accordance with the rules and constitution of UK Masquerade.
2. You must accept that the event Story Tellers have final say over which characters may be allowed in play and may veto any character or item brought to the event in the interests of the game.
3. Before an event: The event organisers may bar from the event any individual whose attendance they consider likely to be detrimental. Any fees paid in advance of this decision will be refunded.
4. During an event: A player whose behaviour is deemed to be disruptive and prejudicial to the enjoyment of the event by the other attendees may be expelled from the event. The decision will be taken in consultation with the attendant officers of UK Masquerade and any officer of the player's home club who is present. Final authority on all such decisions will lie with the event organisers. All fees paid will be forfeit.
5. Play at events is subject to the rules and discipline of UK Masquerade.
