A Brief History
Fiat Lux! is an informal (some would say
anarchic) outfit that is almost a club. We don't have a formal membership or
club structure, nor do we recruit generally. In fact we don't recruit full-stop.
We are just a bunch of friends who all seem to want the same sort of thing from
tagging (thought, action, and role-play in about equal measure) and happen to
get along pretty well.
The purpose of this club is for its
"members" to take part in and run Science Fiction based Live Roleplay
games. These games are based around the LaserTag system.
The name is chosen to reflect the
mechanics of the hobby (see below - pun intended).
Fiat Lux! is not a formal club in that we
have no membership fee, no committee, no hierarchy of any kind (yet!). At
present the un-membership of our not-club stands at ten, spread between
Southampton, Newbury, Stevenage and Northampton. For those of you who've never
met us, we are:
 |
Simon
Russell: aka "Meltdown", operates best at sub-zero
temperatures, our electronics expert, can talk fluent
Maplin |
 |
Gary
Swanston: Resident "strange being". Writes poetry.
Don't ask him to recite it. Just don't, OK? |
 |
Steve
Trent: Our youngest operative so always gets sent out
as scout being least likely to suffer rheumatic cramp
at a critical moment |
 |
Alex
Clark: Bearded beer monster |
 |
Sarah
Clark: Costume designer, rabid role-player, uses 'cute'
as main weapon |
 |
Roz
Day: Specialist in finding holes (there's one around here
somewhaarrrgh!), expert at hiding |
|
Pete Bone (occasional): Resident tactical
genius and owner of bottomless kidney pouches |
|
Andy Haslett (occasional): tba |
 |
Simon Davies (occasional): Arboreal
role-player |
 |
Better
(mascot): Recruited
at TagRag '93. Now a fully fledged Rebel Commando |
We don't want to become a big club
because then we'd have to do proper clubby things like fees and AGMs.
We're all big fans of STAR WARS and we'll
gladly join any game in this genre (but not always as Alliance commandos,
please) but there again we'll happily join any game in any genre! We hide a lot,
we die a lot, we roleplay our socks off and we have fun!
Someone always asks what the name means.
What does it mean? Well, stand in front of the guns and I shall say unto you...
"LET THERE BE LIGHT!"
