Fiat Lux! Sensor

Home Up

The black box contains the circuit board, battery, and a piezo sounder. There is a button (for setting and displaying hits), a battery low LED, the on/off switch (slider type), and 6 LEDs to indicate how many lives you have left.

Connected to the black box is a flat black cable going to the Y-Rig long enough so you can put the box on a belt (it comes with a belt clip).

The Y-Rig consists of two red domes, linked by a flat black cable (thinner than the one going to the box). You mount one dome front facing and one rear facing (usually on whatever headgear you’re wearing). The rear one has the cable going to the box connected to it. There’s also a socket so you can connect your own earpiece to the sounder circuit the piezo will still work, but most people find in the heat of action they can sometimes miss hearing it when they’re hit.

The on/off switch has two on positions: one switches the LED on in the front head dome, one doesn’t.

When the sensor is first switched on, the 6 Leds roll on three times, the piezo beeps and you then have a 10 second window to use the button to count down from 6 hits. If you miscount and end up with zero hits, it’ll reset automatically, the LEDs roll on etc. (Based on feedback from taggers, it now beeps to indicate when a life is counted off.)

When the 10 seconds are up, the LEDs will flash, and you’re ready to play.

The LEDs will be off, so to see how many hits remain, hold the button down, one LED will illuminate to indicate how many hits you have. As long as you hold the button down, the LED will illuminate. Release the buton and the LED extinguishes.

When you take a hit, the piezo will beep rapidly several times and the LED’s will roll on/off.

When your last hit goes (you're dead!), after beeping and rolling the LEDs the sensor will go into a continuous loop of beeping and rolling the LEDs until it’s switched off.

The tone of the beeps are different for power on, taking a hit and no hits left (you're dead!).

That’s it - apart from ordering one! (Circuit schematics, plans & part list can be downloaded)
